Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation Helps Antioch Teen Girls Shine at Prom and Beyond
For many high school seniors, prom represents more than just a dance. It's a milestone, a memory, and a moment to feel celebrated. But for some young women in Antioch, financial challenges can make that magical evening feel impossibly out of reach. That's exactly why Nakia Turner founded Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring no girl misses out on life's special moments because of financial hardship.
"Balance & Gravity Cares nonprofit foundation was born from a simple but powerful belief that every girl deserves to feel seen, beautiful, and confident, especially during life's most meaningful moments," Turner explains. What started as a passion for uplifting others through beauty and self-expression has evolved into something much deeper: a community resource that provides tangible support to young women when they need it most.
Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation helps ensure that all seniors in Antioch Unified have the full prom experience.
More Than Just a Dress
Based in Antioch, California, the foundation primarily serves graduating seniors in the Antioch Unified School District who are experiencing financial hardship. But Balance & Gravity Cares doesn't simply hand out prom dresses and call it a day. The organization stands apart by offering what Turner calls "the full glam experience."
"What sets this approach apart is that we are providing the full experience, and that's the whole glam experience," Turner says. "That's considering hair, makeup, accessories, shoes, and prom dresses. So we stand apart by providing the whole experience, not just the dress, but the experience itself of being celebrated."
Through year-round fundraising efforts, the foundation gathers resources to provide services that help each recipient feel honored and dignified. Whether it's a complete glam makeover, a donated dress, or carefully chosen accessories, every element is designed to create a moment of celebration for these young women.

Building Community Support
While the foundation is still in its beginning stages, the response from the local community has been encouraging. Turner notes that the support they've received demonstrates something important: they're offering more than prom dresses. They're serving the community as a whole by reaching out to young girls who might otherwise feel overlooked during one of their senior year's most anticipated events.
"We recognize that for many teen girls, prom is more than just a night. It's a milestone, a memory, and a moment to shine," Turner reflects. "Yet, for some, financial challenges can make that experience feel out of reach. That's where we step in."

A Vision for the Future
Turner's aspirations for Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation extend well beyond prom season. She envisions expanding services beyond the Antioch Unified School District and providing support to girls throughout their entire senior year, not just during prom. Future plans include community volunteer opportunities, counseling services, and support groups designed to strengthen and empower young women year-round.
"In the future, I hope that we can grow bigger and expanding than more than just the Antioch Unified School District," Turner says. "We're hoping to expand broader to strengthen our mission."
Turner hopes that Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation can extend their support beyond the prom season, helping bring important experiences and confidence to young people throughout their senior year.
At its core, the foundation's mission goes beyond making girls feel pretty for one night. "Our mission is to empower teen girls to step into life's special moments with confidence, dignity, and grace, regardless of the circumstances," Turner emphasizes. "So we go beyond the mission. It's beyond making a girl feel supportive."
Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation envisions a community where no girl is left out of life's milestones because of financial hardship, where every young woman has the opportunity to feel celebrated, supported, and confident in who she is.
