East County Showed Up in Style for America's 250th!

Hometown pride on display in downtown Antioch

If you were in Antioch on the 4th, you know — this year's Independence Day was something special. Thousands turned out for a full day of parade action, live music from the band Serpentine at Waldie Plaza, food trucks, a kids zone, and a fireworks show that had everyone cheering. Melody's Dance Studio took home the "Best Performance" trophy in the parade, Mayor Ron Bernal and the city's parks team were out in force, and the whole scene was pure East County summer magic. Happy belated 250th, America.

East County spirit steps up on the sestercentennial.

California Theatre's Future Hinges on Council Vote as Management Deal Nears $1.4 Million

A Pittsburg Theater's Second Act: Council Considers Management Deal

The city council will take up the matter at its July 20, 2026 meeting. The meeting starts at 7 pm.

The Pittsburg City Council is being asked to extend its management contract with Entertainment Lane, Inc. for the California Theatre, a deal that could reach $1.4 million. The one-year extension includes monthly payments of about $29,166 and a revenue-sharing agreement that gives the company 20% of gross revenue above $650,000. The council will vote on the proposal at its July 20 meeting.

Brentwood's New Police Chief Is a Hometown Hero

A familiar face will be the head of the Brentwood Police Department starting on July 16th, 2026.

Yesterday was officially Day 1 for Walter O'Grodnick as Brentwood's 13th Chief of Police, and it's hard to imagine a better fit. With 28 years of service in Brentwood, he brings deep local knowledge and a commitment to professionalism and transparency.

The decision by Acting City Manager Terrance Davis followed a community survey where over 240 participants identified key leadership qualities that aligned with O'Grodnick's experience, such as public safety, integrity, accountability, and community-oriented policing.

O'Grodnick has served as Brentwood’s Interm Chief of Police since September of 2025. There will be an open house on August 22nd, 2026 from 11 AM - 1 PM held by Brentwood PD so the public can say hello and meet their new chief in person.
