Created By You: Where Every Project Becomes a Personal Masterpiece
For over 25 years, Laura Whittington taught art and science to homeschool students, watching young learners discover their creative potential. As her classes grew larger and more popular, she realized the community needed something more than just occasional lessons. They needed a dedicated space where creativity could flourish any day of the week. That vision led her to open Created By You, a DIY art studio located at 1300 Central Boulevard, Suite D, in Brentwood, California.
"I am a homeschool mom, have homeschooled for over 25 years," Whittington explains. "Because the classes were getting to be so big, I decided to open a brick and mortar. We do a lot of work with students that are in charter schools and home schools as well. So it's nice to be able to have a place that provides something for everybody with all walks of life."

As one of the youngest candidates running, 23-year-old Isaiah Mateas wants to expand student safety and wellness, special education, and more. He hopes to earn a seat on the Oakley Union Elementary School District Board of Education this November.
Isaiah Mateas, a 23-year-old teacher and lifelong Oakley resident, is running for a seat on the Oakley Union Elementary School District Board of Education. With nearly a decade of experience in education and a personal stake in special education services, he hopes to bring a teacher's perspective to the board and focus on student safety, arts education, and teacher support. The election is set for November 3, 2026.

Longtime Healthcare Leader Takes the Helm at Sutter Delta
Effective August 24th, Rick Moreland will become the permanent CEO of Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch. He has over 20 years of experience in healthcare leadership.
Sutter Health has named Rick Moreland as the permanent CEO of Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, effective August 24. Moreland, who previously served as interim CEO, brings over 20 years of healthcare leadership experience and will work alongside the hospital's chief medical executive to continue improving care in East Contra Costa County.

Clayton Town Halls Offer Residents a Closer Look at Local Funding Decisions
Mark your calendars, Clayton residents: August 26th and October 7th Town Hall meetings will allow residents to learn about city finances and two ballot measures.
Clayton residents will have two chances to learn about the city's finances and two ballot measures at Town Hall meetings on August 26 and October 7. The measures include a one percent sales tax and a renewal of the landscape maintenance district, both heading to the November ballot. City officials say the funds are needed to address rising costs and maintain essential services.
