COMMUNITY FEATURE SPOTLIGHT: White Pony Express
Community Feature Spotlight on a nonprofit in East Contra Costa County. This week, we talk about White Pony Express.
Our Community Feature Spotlight for the week is White Pony Express.
White Pony Express
White Pony Express is a nonprofit serving food to those in need in Contra Costa County. It is one of California’s largest food recovery programs, meaning they receive donations of food from retailers, grocery stores, restaurants, and more that are close to their expiration date. This food is still considered safe to consume, but confusion due to food labels often means this food would otherwise end up in a landfill.
Fighting food insecurity & food waste in the Bay Area and beyond. Donate or volunteer today!

Be Curious: How One Antioch Watchdog Wants Voters to Approach a Race That Came Down to Four Votes
Antioch City Council’s District 1 seat is up for election, and community watchdog Diane Gibson-Gray urges voters to research both candidates fully before casting ballots
With the Antioch City Council District 1 seat up for grabs in a race decided by only four votes in 2022, community watchdog Diane Gibson-Gray is urging voters to research both candidates before casting their ballots. She points to long-form podcast interviews with incumbent Tamisha Torres-Walker and challenger Joy Motts as a way for residents to understand each candidate's record and vision. Gibson-Gray emphasizes that informed voting is essential given the district's tight electoral margins and the fiscal and reputational stakes for the city.
