COMMUNITY FEATURE SPOTLIGHT: White Pony Express
Community Feature Spotlight on a nonprofit in East Contra Costa County. This week, we talk about White Pony Express.
Our Community Feature Spotlight for the week is White Pony Express.
White Pony Express
White Pony Express is a nonprofit serving food to those in need in Contra Costa County. It is one of California’s largest food recovery programs, meaning they receive donations of food from retailers, grocery stores, restaurants, and more that are close to their expiration date. This food is still considered safe to consume, but confusion due to food labels often means this food would otherwise end up in a landfill.
Fighting food insecurity & food waste in the Bay Area and beyond. Donate or volunteer today!

Millions of California Students Rely on School Meals. What Happens When School Is Out?
Tyler McCarthy, Outreach Associate for White Pony Express explains that for some students in California, the weekend means meal uncertainty.
California's school meal programs provide critical nutrition to students during the week, but many children face hunger over the weekend when those resources are unavailable. Community groups and food banks try to fill the gap, yet demand often exceeds supply. The issue highlights a broader need for support systems that extend beyond the school day.
