A Decade of Progress: California's Graduation Rate Climbs, but Attendance Gaps Remain

Graduation rates are rising in California, but absent rates are still an issue.
California's high school graduation rate reached a decade high in the 2025-26 school year, while chronic absenteeism and suspension rates continued to decline but remained above pre-pandemic levels. The California School Dashboard showed progress but also persistent disparities among student groups, with chronic absenteeism at 18.3% and suspension rates at 2.8%. The data was released alongside state test scores for the first time, providing a more comprehensive view of student outcomes.
