Guitars ’n’ Kids, a new nonprofit, is helping to bring music to at-risk youth in Contra Costa County. Vinnie’s Bar & Grill in Concord hosts their next fundraiser
The volunteers who ran free youth guitar programs in Contra Costa County for 19 years have launched a new nonprofit called Guitars 'n' Kids after their national parent organization closed local chapters. The group is hosting a fundraiser on August 1, 2026, at Vinnie's Bar & Grill in Concord to buy guitars and materials so they can resume free lessons for kids ages 8 to 18. The event will feature live music and a silent auction, with online donations also accepted.

Every Adoption Makes Room for Another: Inside the Shelter's Summer Surge
Contra Costa Animal Services is urging people to visit their Martinez shelter to adopt or foster this summer, particularly cats and kittens
Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) in Martinez is at full capacity and urgently asking the community to adopt or foster animals, with the greatest need for cats and kittens during this busy summer season. All adoption fees are currently waived, and more than 150 pets are waiting for homes. Every adoption creates space for another animal in need.
