SPOTLIGHT FEATURED BUSINESS: A1 Barbershop

A1 Barbershop: Our Featured Business

A1 Barbershop: Where Haircuts Meet Heart in Pittsburg

Step into A1 Barbershop on Railroad Avenue in Pittsburg, and you might feel like you've just walked into a family living room where all the aunties, uncles, and big cousins are gathered, having a good time. Except here, you're also getting an excellent haircut.

That welcoming atmosphere is no accident. For Joanna Hernandez and her family, A1 Barbershop is more than a place for tapers, comb-overs, cornrow braids, and clean cuts. It's a community hub built on the belief that looking good helps people do good and feel good.

Antioch Speedway Honors Hall of Famer with Thrilling Dean Cline Classic

Antioch Speedway held their 5th annual Dean Cline Classic on August 8th, with incredible wins

Steven Johnson of Bakersfield won the $1,000 Dean Cline Classic at Antioch Speedway, taking the lead on lap six and holding off challenges to claim the 25-lap Hobby Stock feature. The night also saw Tyler Browne earn his first IMCA Modified win, Fred Ryland sweep both the Sport Modified and Stock Car mains to tie the all-time win record, and Danny Wagner extend his Dwarf Car point lead.

From Alameda to the Golden Gate: Two Leaders Step Up for the East Bay's Parks

Two new leaders will join the The East Bay Regional Park District, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience

The East Bay Regional Park District has hired two new executive leaders, Amy Wooldridge and Kirsten Holder, to help guide the agency's operations and long-term planning. Wooldridge brings extensive public sector management experience from Alameda, while Holder comes from the National Park Service with a background in landscape architecture and environmental planning. Both will start in late summer, and their appointments are expected to strengthen the district's focus on stewardship, community engagement, and climate resilience.
