Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation Helps Antioch Teen Girls Shine at Prom and Beyond
For many high school seniors, prom represents more than just a dance. It's a milestone, a memory, and a moment to feel celebrated. But for some young women in Antioch, financial challenges can make that magical evening feel impossibly out of reach. That's exactly why Nakia Turner founded Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring no girl misses out on life's special moments because of financial hardship.
From Surplus Food to Second Chances: How One Vote Could Help White Pony Express Do More
White Pony Express, a Contra Costa nonprofit serving meals to those in need, has been named a finalist for a grand funding award. The winner is decided via public vote that ends on Sept. 30th.
White Pony Express, a Concord-based food recovery nonprofit serving Contra Costa County, has been named a Western Region finalist for the Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Awards, putting it in the running for up to $200,000 in grant funding. The winner is decided by public vote through the Chick-fil-A app, with voting open until Sept. 30. The organization currently delivers the equivalent of 13,000 free meals a day to more than 140 partners, and a win would help it serve the 70-plus groups still on its waitlist.

Antioch Leaders Push for Dedicated Economic Development Team to Revive Local Growth
With a vote to move forward, The Antioch City Council will create a standalone economic development department. More details will be expected at the Oct. 13th meeting.
The Antioch City Council voted Tuesday to move forward with a standalone economic development department, directing staff to return October 13 with a budget, job description, salary range, and recruitment plan. Council members disagreed on whether to create a dedicated director role or a split assistant city manager position, and a salary survey showed Antioch pays significantly less than nearby cities.
