But for some young women in Antioch, financial challenges can make that magical evening feel impossibly out of reach. That's exactly why Nakia Turner founded Balance & Gravity Cares Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring no girl misses out on life's special moments because of financial hardship.
Pittsburg Residents Invited to Share Conversations with Police at 'Palabras con la Policía'
On Sept. 30th from 4:30-6:30 PM, The Pittsburg Police Department will host Palabras con la Policía. This free multilingual gathering connects the community directly to law enforcement.
The Pittsburg Police Department will host Palabras con la Policía, a free community event, on September 30, 2026, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the City Hall lawn. The multilingual gathering, with a focus on Spanish speakers, encourages residents to meet officers, ask questions, and learn about local resources in an informal setting. No registration is required, and light refreshments will be provided.

California Reps Seek Accountability for Federal Discrimination in Local Communities
The Confronting and Correcting Historical Injustices Act has been introduced by Congresswoman Lateefah Simon and Congressman Mark DeSaulnier.
Congresswoman Lateefah Simon and Congressman Mark DeSaulnier have introduced the Confronting and Correcting Historical Injustices Act, which would establish an independent commission to investigate and remedy discrimination by federal agencies. The bill, partly inspired by the Port Chicago 50 case, was previously introduced by Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee and DeSaulnier. The commission would review cases, recommend action, accept public submissions, and have subpoena power.
